On June 19, 2026, the EKCC Project organized an in-person meeting at the One-Stop Cancer Care Center located at Churchill Health Center (CHC), bringing together 26 participants, including the leadership of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH) and CHC, clinical specialists, technical experts, and project staff. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the project's progress and key achievements to the new TASH management team while serving as a platform to discuss operational challenges and identify priority action points to strengthen the comprehensive cancer care services at the center. Discussions focused on enhancing multidisciplinary collaboration, improving the interoperability of patient information systems between TASH and CHC to ensure seamless continuity of care, and reinforcing institutional ownership of the One-Stop Cancer Care Center. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from the leadership of TASH and CHC to provide continued managerial support, strengthen collaboration, and sustain the achievements of the EKCC Project initiative. This was followed by a tour of service delivery units at the center. The meeting reaffirmed the shared responsibilities of TASH and CHC to deliver integrated, patient-centered, and high-quality cancer care services through the One-Stop Cancer Care Center.

The EKCC Project officially launched Phase II on February 26, 2026, in Addis Ababa, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Ethiopia’s efforts to strengthen and decentralize cancer care services. Building on five years of impactful collaboration between Addis Ababa University and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, and with support from EKFS, the project has made significant strides in improving prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of breast and cervical cancer at the primary healthcare level. During the launch event, representatives from the Ministry of Health and Addis Ababa University joined project leaders Dr. Adamu Addissie and Prof. Eva J. Kantelhardt in reflecting on the achievements of Phase I and presenting the vision for the years ahead. A photo exhibition showcasing key milestones and a ceremonial cake-cutting marked the occasion, while special recognition was given to Prof. Eva and Martin Luther University for their longstanding commitment to advancing cancer care in Ethiopia. Through Phase II (2026–2030), the EKCC Project will work closely with Addis Ababa University, Regional Health Bureaus, and the Ministry of Health to expand innovative cancer care models, strengthen health system capacity, and improve access to quality, patient-centered services for women across Ethiopia.

In a month dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness, the EKCC team will be providing free breast and cervical cancer screening services for employees of the Office of the Federal Auditor General, the Federal Press Agency, and the Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor's Office in the coming week. This commendable initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of breast and cervical cancers. EKCC's team of experienced healthcare professionals will conduct thorough screenings to identify any potential signs or risks. EKCC is actively contributing to the well-being of employees and emphasizing the significance of women's health in Ethiopia. The upcoming week highlights the fight against breast and cervical cancer, showcasing the commitment towards comprehensive cancer care for all.

As part of the October Breast Awareness Month, the EKCC Team organized a screening campaign for employees of the Oromia Regional Health Bureau. The campaign aimed to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer and cervical cancer by offering free screenings to the dedicated healthcare workers. The team, comprising a nurse midwife, a doctor, and a radiologist, went a step further to ensure comprehensive screenings by offering on-site ultrasound examinations for suspicious cases, enabling timely detection and follow-up for any potential abnormalities. The event not only provided valuable information on breast and cervical caner but also facilitated early diagnosis, empowering the employees to take charge of their well-being. The initiative showcased the importance of proactive measures and highlighted the commitment of the EKCC Team and the Oromia Regional Health Bureau to prioritize the health of their staff and the community they serve.
