A significant step toward improving men's health and cancer prevention in Ethiopia was achieved through a collaborative initiative between Ethiopia and Italy aimed at strengthening prostate cancer awareness and screening services. Through the professional network facilitated by Dr. Adamu Addissie, financial support for this initiative was secured from the Embassy of Italy on 5 March 2026 to enhance prostate cancer awareness and screening activities at Churchill Health Center.
The initiative was inspired by H.E. Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, whose proposal to participate in the global Movember campaign shortly after assuming his diplomatic post helped mobilize resources and attention toward men's health, particularly prostate cancer. The funds raised through this effort were formally handed over to the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) during a ceremony held at Villa Italia, with the objective of supporting free prostate cancer screening services at Churchill Health Center. THET is an organization currently working with CHC to improve prostet cancer screening. The addition of prostate cancer screening at CHC represents an important milestone in expanding integrated cancer care and improving access to early detection services for men.
The handover ceremony brought together key stakeholders and partners, including Dr. Adamu Addissie, Lead of the EKCC Project; Dr. Yoseph Mamo, CD of THET; Mr. Gelana Lulu, CEO of Churchill Health Center; Mrs. Netsanet Shiferaw, EKCC Project Coordinator; and Mr. Tibebe, THET Project Manager, alongside H.E. Ambassador Sem Fabrizi and members of the Embassy team.
This partnership demonstrates the value of international collaboration in addressing emerging cancer care needs and contributes to the broader goal of strengthening equitable, patient-centered, and comprehensive cancer services in Ethiopia.
