EKCC Project Hosts In-Person Meeting with TASH Management at the One-Stop Cancer Care Center/Churchill Health Center

An in-person meeting was held on June 19, 2026, at the One-Stop Cancer Care Center located at Churchill Health Center (CHC), bringing together 26 participants to oversee the progress of EKCC project initiative with the new management of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH). The meeting aimed to provide updates on implementation progress, discuss operational challenges, identify priority actions, and strengthen institutional commitment to improving the quality and sustainability of cancer care services. The meeting was attended by multidisciplinary teams, including CEOs of TASH and CHC, EKCC project lead, heads of breast and endocrine surgery unit and obstetrics and gynecology department, pharmacy department monitoring and evaluation (M&E) head, IT department head, software developer, and service providers from CHC.

The meeting opened with welcoming remarks by the CEO of CHC, Mr. Gelan, who recognized the strong collaboration among AAU/CHS/TASH and Addis Ababa Health Bureau/CHC in advancing cancer care, emphasizing a great contribution from multidisciplinary teams of TASH. Dr. Adamu, EKCC Project Lead, in his keynote address, underscored the importance of sustained partnership, institutional ownership, and leadership engagement to ensure the long-term success of the One-Stop Cancer Care Center. Following an overview of project progress and achievement presentation by the EKCC Project Coordinator, a constructive discussion was moderated by Dr. Adamu and Mr. Gelan. The discussion focused on strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration, improving the interoperability of patient information systems between TASH and CHC to ensure continuity of care, addressing operational gaps, and identifying action points to further improve service quality. In the closing remarks, the CEO of TASH, Dr. Birhanu Sendek, reaffirmed TASH's strong commitment to provid continued support and regular follow-up to further strengthen the One-Stop Cancer Care Center service.

Participants also emphasized the importance of institutional ownership and further strengthening of collaboration between the two institutions, TASH and CHC, to ensure the sustainability of the One-Stop Cancer Care Center beyond the project period.  Particular emphasis was placed on advancing interoperable patient information systems as a critical step toward delivering integrated, patient-centered cancer care. the meeting was concluded with a tour of service delivery units at the center.

Overall, the meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of TASH and CHC leadership, clinical teams, technical experts, and the EKCC Project to sustain and expand comprehensive cancer care services. The engagement of senior management and multidisciplinary teams demonstrated institutional readiness to address implementation challenges, enhancing coordination, and sustaining the achievements of the EKCC Project initiative while laying the foundation for institutional ownership, and the long-term sustainability of the One-Stop Cancer Care Center.
